'Penance' - A site-specific perfomative intervention in West Wales

'penance’

ˈpɛnəns/

noun

1.

punishment inflicted on oneself as an outward expression of repentance for wrongdoing.

In order to grow, one must strike whilst the iron is hot. Hurt oneself now, so that one can be 'stronger' in the future. To heal oneself is a painful sacrifice, as it must follow the removal of poisonous habits and actions.

A new site specific exhibition stemming from a short residency within the town of Haverfordwest and surrounding Pembrokeshire. Evolving out of the cathartic removal of the artist's own grief in his previous exhibition 'Loss-', this exhibition hopes to highlight and ruminate upon notions of Repentance and Self-actualisation, transmuted as a response to the esoteric symbolism of West Wales' mystical & religious inheritance.

Priory Flora (wild flowers, brambles, weeds, dead flora), Bitumin Tar, water from the river Cleddau, latent energy, 23 glass vessels.

A piece about fragility, masculinity and purging a darkness drawn from within.

The photos here are one half of the result of the perfomative intervention; the other is an artist’s film, coming this year.

Supported and hosted by spacetocreate, Haverfordwest.
